Floating ceiling tiles or suspended ceiling tiles are the same. They are a ceiling panel system that hangs below the main exterior structural ceiling. In other words, the suspended ceiling does not make up a permanent structural foundation, serving as a covering for what’s above.
Drop ceilings are now more commonly known as a suspended or false ceiling. They create a space between the underside of the structure and upper surface of the ceiling. Effectively, a dropped ceiling is a secondary ceiling, hung below the main structural ceiling.
Hung or hanging ceiling are effectively the same. A suspended grid system is sometimes referred as hung or hanging ceiling, as it hangs from the main structural ceiling. The grid is usually supported in place with galvanised wire , hanger brackets or flange hangers.
A suspended ceiling offers a few more benefits than a Plasterboard. When it comes to heating costs, the height of a plasterboard ceiling is determined by the height of the building or walls. Likewise, the replacement of plasterboard can often be costly, requiring more than just the affected area to be replaced. Suspended ceilings can reduce the area to be heated, as the height can be set and adjusted for optimum performance. The tiles can be replaced in 600 x 600mm or 600 x 1200mm segments.
